A visit from Santa!

The word got out that Santa was coming to lunch last Sunday, so it was no real surprise that he was joined by some 250 members and their guests!

Santa has also found some time in his busy schedule to be the Junior Organiser for the last 12 months. He said he had a lovely visit to The Berkshire and looks forward to seeing everyone again next year.

Reed plays the villain

Pantomime season is clearly rubbing off with the pros on Tour as they played out their own hero and villain story in the rather luxurious surroundings of the Bahamas.

Henrik Stenson played the starring role with victory in the Hero World Challenge by a single shot from Jon Rahm, but it was Patrick Reed who took on the role of the villain due to a rule infringement.

On Friday, Reed’s ball was in the waste on the par-5 11th hole, but he twice brushed back the sand behind the ball during his practice swings.

Under Rule 12.2b, a player must not touch the sand with the club when making a practice swing or a stroke and Reed was subsequently handed a two-shot penalty for the infringement for ‘improving his lie.’

Ironically, this led Reed to missing out on a shot of glory after ending the tournament two shots behind winner Stenson… Ouch.

Sometimes, the difference between a scratch golfer and a 9-handicapper can be quite small, such as how far they each hit the ball. However, there is certainly one part of the game that can be hugely different and it’s the area where your score is either made or lost.

Why the gap?

It's brilliant to see more club golfers getting fitted for new clubs now than ever before, and long may that continue!

But why would you not get fitted for your wedges?

With modern lofts on irons being stronger than ever (one of the reasons today's irons go further than a decade ago), golfers are often left with huge gaps between clubs at the bottom of their bag.

With lofts available from 46 (PW) to 62 (LW) degrees, we'd highly recommend getting fitted for Vokey’s SM7 wedges as not only will they provide you with great performance around the green, but the correct set-up will easily fill any gaps you might have.
