Next year is set to see another major change in the golfing landscape as the new World Handicap System comes into play from November. So, we decided to take a closer look at how it will be calculated and what it will mean for you going forward – we’ll try not to get too heavy.

We are all delighted that all of the dates for the Pro/Pro Challenge have now been taken and I would like to thank everyone for taking part.

A reserve list is now open, so please still get in contact if you would like to play.

To avoid any confusion, this event is not replacing the great tradition of challenging the Capt/Pro on Sunday mornings and dates for this will be available from mid-January to mid-April, dates hopefully to be announced soon.

Handicap news

Save the date - 01/11/20

2019 has been quite the year for golf and 2020 promises to be no different as we welcome the new World Handicap System (WHS) to the UK.

How will it impact you?

The nuts and bolts say that the best eight scores from your previous 20 rounds will form the basis of your handicap, whilst your scores from the previous 12 months will play a role to prevent wild fluctuations in handicap.

Interestingly, abnormal course and weather conditions will also be taken into account after each round.

It all sounds a little complicated but we'll keep you updated with the latest information and what it means for you as we draw closer to its introduction in November 2020.

Birdie-fest

"You know, I’m sort of sick of coming back over to the European Tour and shooting 15-under par and finishing 30th"

Rory McIlroy held nothing back in his assessment of the current challenges (or rather lack of) that European Tour venues provide in his most recent interview.

It came shortly after shooting 15-under-par across Carnoustie, Kingsbarns and the Old Course to end in a tie for 26th at the Alfred Dunhill Links (won by Frenchman Victor Perez).

Are you part of the 70%?

The popularity of Distance Measuring Devices (DMDs) has been growing for several years as golfers seek as much help as possible whilst out on the course. Garmin Approach S40 watch

GPS devices are not just about reading front, middle and back yardages. Well, in some cases they are, but not when it comes to Garmin’s Approach S40 watch.

As we know, the course can be played several different ways and the Approach S40 displays distances to hazards and doglegs at a glance, which will prove vital when trying to take your course management to the next level.

In fact, at this time of the year when a wet course is a regular occurrence, knowing your yardages has never been more important. This is where the S40 comes into its own as it allows you to alter the pin's position on your watch so you can get highly accurate distances.

A new ball from Titleist

It's not uncommon for brands to launch their products as the greatest thing since sliced bread, however, if you like to play a ball that has an ultra-soft feel and doesn't shirk its responsibilities off the tee or around the green, then the brand new TruFeel could well make a justified claim to that title.

Who says you can't have everything all at once?
