Heroic Henrik
I have just about recovered from the amazing exhibition of golf provided by Messrs Stenson and Mickelson in Sunday's final round at Royal Troon. To be able to produce that quality of golf on a difficult course, with a testing breeze and a bit of pressure thrown in was fantastic.
The golf world has run out of superlatives for Henrik Stenson, who claimed his first Major title at Royal Troon last weekend - what a final round we were treated to. Has there ever been a more impressive final round in Open Championship history?
Both the Swede and 2013 Open champion, Phil Mickelson carded 63s around the famous links, but it was Stenson - who shot his 63 on Sunday - who prevailed, despite the American posting a hugely impressive 65.
On any other day, Mickelson would have been celebrating his sixth Major. To put their scoring into perspective, Mickelson (-17) finished three shots shy of Stenson but 11 clear of JB Holmes in solo third. It was a two-horse race for the Claret Jug before they teed off on Sunday, but few people could have expected them to surge further clear in the manner they did.
It was also very uplifting to see hugs of golfing fellowship on the last green after 18 holes of slugging it out -our game at its very best. Hopefully that's got the juices flowing for many of you to get out and play, no doubt these two super pros have inspired many young golf fans watching on.
If you have been inspired to get out and improve your game during this weekend's action, get in touch here and we can book a session in to help you on your way.
