Has DeChambeau invented the new way to play golf?
Anyone who has played golf with me in the last 12 months will have no doubt had to listen to me rambling on about the remarkable Bryson DeChambeau who is self-taught and plays with a set of irons that he personally designed to suit his self-styled golf swing.
US Amateur Champion DeChambeau made a name for himself this week by taking a one shot lead in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship after round one, whilst Jordan Spieth was warned for slow play.
What I find most remarkable about DeChambeau is that all of his irons are exactly the same length and lie angle, only the lofts vary. This means that his set-up position and swing is exactly the same with all of his iron shots. If he becomes the next Jordan Spieth he will no doubt turn the golf industry on its head for both equipment manufacturers and PGA Golf Professionals like me. Who knows, the PGA may recall old Club Pros like me to learn the DeChambeau swing!
